The vessel faced critical issues with its obsolete HeliconX PCS system, which severely compromised manoeuvrability and safety. With spares being either incompatible or overused in the industry, an urgent upgrade was essential. This upgrade was particularly crucial as the vessel had secured a high-value charter as a standby vessel.
Tritek won the competitive bid to retrofit the existing system with a modern TRICON™ MK4 Tunnel Thruster Control System, addressing the critical issues and ensuring the vessel’s operational reliability for its upcoming charter. Charter details are undisclosed considering confidentiality.
The scope of work included the design, engineering, and manufacturing of the control panels for this PLC based main propulsion system, ensuring the network architecture was designed to suit the vessels’ requirements. The TRICON™ MK 4 Tunnel Thruster Control System was also designed with seamless integration to the TRICON™ DP2 system onboard.
The retrofit of the obsolete HeliconX Propulsion Control System with the Tricon MK Propulsion Control System was successfully completed in record time. Tritek’s solution enhanced the vessel’s manoeuvrability and safety, ensuring it was charter-ready and compliant with operational standards. The project included comprehensive testing and integration, providing a robust and reliable control system tailored to the vessel’s needs.
