Successful Retrofit of Marine Power Management System with DEIF PPM 300

Vessel Characteristics:
Barge Carrier

Scope of work: Marine Power Management System Retrofit with DEIF PPM 300

Marine Power Management System

The vessel’s legacy PLC-based marine power management system was struggling with aging components, limited technical support, and inefficient generator performance, which compromised onboard operations. Tritek delivered a comprehensive marine power management system retrofit using DEIF PPM 300, installing 5 PPM 300 units and 5 corresponding DEIF PPM 300 displays in Main Switchboard. The upgrade included advanced generator controllers, automated synchronization, intelligent load sharing, updated wiring to modern marine electrical standards, and full system validation. This ensured seamless operation of all five onboard diesel generators in both standalone and integrated modes.

As a trusted provider of marine power management solutions in the UAE & Globally and system integrator of DEIF’s Power solutions in the UAETritek specializes in minimizing downtime, enhancing onboard troubleshooting, and maximizing marine power system efficiency with tailored, future-ready solutions for all vessel types.

Key Challenges:

  • Legacy PLC system with limited support
  • Maintaining electrical safety during installation
  • Strict downtime constraints to ensure operational continuity

Technical Highlights:

The upgraded system was designed to improve efficiency, reliability, and ease of operation. Key features include:

  • Advanced DEIF power management system
  • PLC-free architecture for simplified troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Intelligent load-dependent start/stop of generators
  • Automatic load sharing and synchronization
  • Built-in generator protection and control functions
  • Priority-based load management for critical operations
  • Improved handling of heavy consumers and preferential tripping

This modern setup ensures that the vessel’s power system operates smoothly, even under varying load conditions.

Results & Impacts:

After successful commissioning, the barge experienced significant improvements:

  • Higher reliability of marine power systems
  • Reduced maintenance time and operational downtime
  • Improved system safety and redundancy
  • Faster fault detection and troubleshooting
  • Full charter readiness with optimized performance
